The growing importance of scientific sovereignty in the context of open science is the main focus of a lecture titled “Who owns our knowledge infrastructure? Scholarly publications at the core of scientific sovereignty.” According to analyst Pierre Mounier, while openness has become one of the fundamental principles of contemporary research, it also raises questions regarding the governance and control of the infrastructures that support the creation, dissemination, and preservation of scientific knowledge. On Monday, March 23, in a live broadcast starting at 4:00 p.m., Mounier will explain how the Diamond Open Access model can contribute to openness and the equitable functioning of scientific communication, while ensuring that ownership and management of publishing infrastructures remain in the hands of the academic community. Pierre Mounier is the Strategic Director of OPERAS, a European research infrastructure focused on open scientific communication in the social sciences and humanities, where he contributes to developing and implementing its strategic vision. He holds degrees in Classics and Social Anthropology and is based at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS). There, he heads the international department of OpenEdition, the French national infrastructure for open scientific communication in the social sciences and humanities. Together with Niels Stern, he also co-leads the Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB). In recent years, he has been actively involved in developing the Diamond Open Access model in Europe and, together with Johan Rooryck, coordinates the European Diamond Capacity Hub initiative.
